Dr. Carl Jarrett is the new Senior Veterinarian at Pet Universe Northgate.

Carl has been a practicing veterinarian for 12 years and brings with him a wealth of
experience, both veterinary, management and cultural.

Dr. Jarrett was born in South Africa and graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Pretoria in1997.Having dual nationality in the U.K. as well as South Africa gave Carl the opportunity of working in several small animal practices in England including the chance to hone his critical care skills working for an Emergency Centre that covered
15 local practices’ after-hours cases.

Dr. Jarrett’s last five years in the U.K. were spent as the Senior Surgeon for Pets Barn in Gloucester where he was in sole charge of the main practice and performed all advanced surgeries for all three practices in the Vet Group falling under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Surgery Certificate syllabus (for surgeons training to be Referral Surgeons).

In 2007 Carl and his wife Rebecca immigrated to our beautiful state and Carl took up the position of Practice Manager and Senior Veterinarian in another busy Adelaide practice until joining Pet Universe in February 2009. Dr. Jarrett enjoys interacting with clients and has a passion for surgery, particularly orthopaedics.

Another special interest is allergy testing so clients can know what allergens their pets are sensitive to.

Away from work Carl’s his main passion are his two lovely dogs, Sharka a gentle lurcher , Blue a docile Wiemaraner and three chooks, as well as D.I.Y. and diving!

Dr Kat Oberle hails from Scotia in New York where the weather ranges from hot to sub-zero. I’ve gotten very good at dodging black ice & surviving the occasional skid which is something I will enjoy missing in Adelaide!”

Dr Oberle studied at prestegious Cornell University for eight years (four years as an undergraduate followed by another four years to gain my postgraduate doctorate in Veterinary Medicine ,a life-long ambition) to become a veterinarian. She spent a wonderful six months on a study-abroad programme at Melbourne University in 2000 & during that time I fell in love with the "Australian way of life.”

On graduation, her first job was at Garden State Veterinary Specialist Centre on a one-year internship. Working in excess of 70 hours a week with both surgical, oncology & emergency medicine specialists was an exhilarating if exhausting experience. Garden State Specialist patients were often unconscious & very sick where she gain a great wealth of practical experience with the direction of board certified specialists.

Dr Oberle applied to Pet Universe here in Adelaide as she felt it offered wellness as well as more advanced care in a great setting and with a great lifestyle change for an overworked veterinarian!”
